World War Two (WW2) campaign medals - JX248637 Petty Officer Thomas Carmichael Bell, British Empire Medal (Military Division) presented by the King for bravery and enterprise during an enemy attack on the city of Plymouth, 1939-45 Star, Atlantic Star, Burma Star and War Medal, served Royal Navy, orig from Thornton, Fife - included in the lot are many original Admiralty documents relating to the presentation of the B.E.M., invitation to Buckingham Palace, London Gazetter supplement and similar. Original official letter from D.E.M.S. Admiralty states that 'at the height of a very heavy attack, Bell acting on his own initiative and realising the great risks involved, crawled through and under piles of burning debris, he rescued two seamen. He showed entire disregard for his safety throughout'.
